The Waterfall collection of paintings on paper is inspired by Morocco and Egypt, my travels in Essaouira and my interest in the tradition of storytelling. While painting, I’ve imagined the forbidden dreams of women in search of freedom. My heroine smokes a hookah and goes into a trance. Lulled by Gnawa music, she dances with the waves, dives into the depths of the Mogador Blue, follows the wind of starry nights, adorns herself with precious gold and plays with saffron-colored snakes. Do taboos prevent imagination from unfolding? Waterfall is a permission to desire, a tribute to the women who have left me their repressed treasures.
